The sky is a gorgeous shade of blue, perfect for flying kites and having picnics with friends. The gentle breeze carries the sounds of playful screams from rambunctious toddlers, their fingers sticky from the peanut-butter-jelly sandwiches they have just finished eating. Two young women sit talking on the edge of the brook, their tiny, precious babies wrapped safely in their arms. Ducks merrily float along in the murky water, gobbling up the crumbled pieces of bread tossed to them by passersby. As I step along the boardwalk, careful not to slip on the wet wood, I breathe in the humid air. I watch the people, from the young to the elderly, laughing and talking and making vivid hand gestures, full of emotion. They fan themselves to cool off from the heat and soak their feet in the rippling water. They play pat-a-cake and lie back on the mantis green grass, cloud-watching. They live in the moment, here at the brook. I want to live in the moment, too.
I hurriedly slip off my sandals and briskly walk along the rest of the boardwalk, stopping only when I reach my destination- the waterside, where I intend to spend the rest of my afternoon in tranquility.
Note: This was inspired by a recent walk I took by the brook. I hope you enjoyed!
Wow, I can really see this and feel like I'm actually there, while reading this post! I did something similar along the lines of this on my blog, but it was about a rainy morning. ^.^
