Carnival

Glowing lights and soft jazz
spellbind people who take
a whiff of funnel cake, a sip of lemonade.

Colorful vendors line the street,
games with prizes of over-sized stuffed animals.
It is the epitome of summer nights.

Adults laugh and share stories
of their childhoods,
reminiscing about how things used to be.

They are entranced by the Ferris wheel,
spinning round and round,
a staple at the carnival.

They remember soaring through the sky,
gleeful and dizzy all the same,
and they gravitate towards the line.

It snakes around the corner,
children tugging at their parents' legs and
scrambling for pink and blue cotton candy.

They hand over tickets and
step into the gondolas with
a striking sense of nostalgia.

Grandparents, moms, and dads are delighted
with the hopes that perhaps for a night,
they can be children once again.

Hope you enjoyed! I'm actually terrified of waiting at the top of Ferris wheels, but they're so fun to ride! ps. My next post is a very special one, so stay tuned!

    1. Thanks, Sarah. I love Ferris wheels, but it feels like an eternity when people below are getting on and you're waiting at the top!

  3. Ferris Wheels are super magical, and don't worry about being at the top; it's not that bad. You get a light weight feeling in your stomach, but you don't plummet down to the ground. It's just a smooth ride down.
