Flower Crowns

via

Ringlets hang around her spirited face,
a tiara topping her head.
As she stands in the sunset,
a dark silhouette against the brilliant hues,
she is a princess.
In her head she slays dragons,
scares away monsters,
and is awoken by true love's first kiss.
Her gown is embellished,
her heels high.
She lives in a castle in the clouds,
a palace made of gold in a kingdom of magic.

But of course she is a child,
her tiara a flower crown of blooms,
searching for the monsters underneath her bed.
Wrinkled sundress twirling in the wind,
returning to her two-story city home.
Yet her dreams are kept alive,
the fiery embers of innocence lit by hope.
Her smile makes the world light up.

In her eyes is childhood,
fairy tales and storytelling her joys.
As night quickly falls,
she drifts into sleep in her father's arms,
her visions full of happily-ever-afters.
When she awakes,
she will once more be a princess in her castle in the clouds,
twirling with a flower crown and a mind racing with imagination.

This piece was completely written on a whim. Hope you enjoyed!  x - Sanjana

  9. Beautiful poem. I think it's important to write on a whim every once in a while. It's a good creative writing exercise to set a timer and just write what's on your mind, or to take a single word and begin to paint. A good whim piece is, in my opinion, an essential part to being a writer.

    1. I completely agree with you! I was part of a writing club last year, and we would always do round robin rounds, timed pieces, etc. Those whim pieces probably trained me best for writing competitions. ♡
